A bulletin board for information about the EcoSchool committee at Sir William Osler Elementary school for teachers, students, parents and the community.
Thursday, January 17, 2008
Our first official meeting for the new Environmental Committee is scheduled for Thursday, January 25th, at 1:10pm in the library!
Welcome to the information centre for SWO's EcoSchool Commitee!
On this site you will find information for students (fun links and activities to try), teachers (curriculum connections - how to bring an environmental awareness theme into your classroom), parents and the school community in general (projects underway, success stories, etc.).
The purpose of this committee is not only to reduce our ecological footprint as a school, but to teach our children to become responsible stewards of their environment.
Enjoy and please feel free to post your comments or ideas!
"We could go over the cliff. You would hope not. You would hope that people see what needs to be done. It's not rocket science. It's not difficult. It's not even all that costly. It's actually about the way you think about the world." Tim Flannery, author
The parent members of our team so far are: Susan Willis, Sharon Byrne, Lori-Lynn King, Erin Willson, Jennifer Reid, Sally Goede, and Kathy Fisher. Staff members include Mrs. LeBonn and Mrs. Rowles.
Ecological inquiryreveals our dependence on the healthy functioning of the Earth's living systems which give us clean air, water, soil, food and all the other resources we depend on.
Ecological literacyallows us to understand the urgency of developing protective, sustainable, and restorative relationships with the natural systems that are affected by our daily activities.
Listen to Craig Kielburger, child founder of the human rights organization, Free the Children, talk about children and activism. Hear his tips on how to help our children become Global Citizens.
